Has Samsung ditched plans for a full metal Galaxy S6?

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S6 might not be sporting a full-metal unibody after all.

Speaking to Korean news site DDaily, a "Samsung Electronics official" dismissed previous rumours that Samsung was going for a premium all-metal frame to help the Galaxy S6 stand out from the crowd.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 proved to be a fine smartphone, but the plastic design kept it from being able to compete with other flagship smartphones in the looks department. Although the Samsung Galaxy Alpha offered an improved design with a metal frame, it was the rumours of an all-metal Galaxy S6 that really got us salivating.

Pain in the glass

According to the source, instead of an all-metal unibody the Samsung Galaxy S6 will feature a metal frame with a glass front and back, much like the Sony Xepria Z3 and other handsets.

Apparently the reason for Samsung's decision is that it wants the flagship Galaxy S6 to be different from the new mid-range Galaxy A series which use a metal unibody design.

If the rumours of the Samsung Galaxy S6's metal and glass body are correct, we could be faced with yet another Samsung flagship smartphone with a rather conservative design. Let's just hope the rest of the smartphone measures up.
