SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive transfers files between Android devices and PCs

SanDisk has launched a new version of its high-speed USB flash drive that aims to help with transferring and backing up files between Android devices and PCs.

As the name suggests, the SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 drive has been upgraded from last year's USB 2.0 to the more recent (and faster) USB 3.0 standard. By using it to connect a smartphone or tablet to a PC or Mac, files can be transferred from one to the other without having to resort to a wireless connection or micro-SD card.

The drive has a micro-USB connector at one end, which SanDisk says has been lengthened to work better with cases. At the other end is a full-size USB 3.0 port for connecting to a computer.

Once loaded onto the drive using SanDisk's Memory Zone app, files can be transferred onto a computer's storage drive at speeds of up to 130MB/s - if you're rocking USB 3.0. The card is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, but don't expect it to work quite so fast.

On the go

Android devices will need to On The GO (OTG), a portable storage feature found on some mid-range and most high-end smartphones, for the drive to work. SanDisk has compiled a list of compatible models on its website, which you can check here.

The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 drive is available now in 16-, 32- and 64GB sizes, starting at $22.99 (around £15/AUS$28).
